Guild Wars 2 has announced significant changes to how players access its extensive story content, integrating Living World seasons directly into expansion purchases. This update aims to streamline the player experience and enhance the value of existing bundles for both new and returning adventurers in Tyria. The changes, effective as of October 13, 2026, mean that Living World seasons are no longer available for individual purchase.
A major highlight of this overhaul is that Living World Season 2 is now free for all players, mirroring the accessibility of Living World Season 1. Players with a level 80 character will automatically gain access to Season 2, allowing for a continuous narrative flow from the core story directly into the events of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns.
Expansion Bundle Updates
Further adjustments include the bundling of Living World Seasons 3 and 4 with the Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns and Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire bundle. Players who already own these expansions will have any missing episodes from these seasons automatically unlocked. Similarly, Living World Season 5, known as The Icebrood Saga, is now included with Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons. Existing owners of this expansion will also receive any previously unowned episodes from Season 5.
The Guild Wars 2 Elder Dragon Saga bundle has been updated to include Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire, Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons, and Living World Seasons 3, 4, and 5. A new Guild Wars 2 Astral Ward Saga bundle has also been introduced, featuring Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure, Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds, and Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity. The Guild Wars 2 Complete Collection now encompasses all six expansions and Living World Seasons 3, 4, and 5, with Seasons 1 and 2 remaining free for all players.
Starter Pack and Refund Information
The Guild Wars 2 Starter Pack has also been improved, now including a Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic, 5 Teleport to Friend devices, and 2 Black Lion Chest Keys. Players who previously purchased the Starter Pack will receive these additional items via in-game mail. For players who purchased any Living World content after September 12, 2026, a gem refund equivalent to the value of that content will be automatically applied to their account. This also applies to partial gem refunds for purchases of the Guild Wars 2 Elder Dragon Saga—Complete Collection.
