Old School RuneScape has announced a Deep Sea Diving expansion, which will introduce a new quest titled 'Burial at Sea' and unlock a variety of underwater activities. This expansion was hinted at during a previous RuneFest roadmap and is described as the second and final part of a storyline that began with the 'Pandemonium' quest.

The 'Burial at Sea' quest is classified as an 'Experienced' tier quest. To begin it, players must have completed 'Recipe for Disaster - Freeing Pirate Pete' and can speak to 'Squawking' Steve Beanie at the pub on the Pandemonium. The diving gear crafted during the Pirate Pete chapter of 'Recipe for Disaster' will be essential for the new deep sea diving mechanics.

Post-Quest Deep Sea Diving

Upon completing 'Burial at Sea', players will gain the ability to go Deep Sea Diving. This involves accessing various diving sites beneath Gielinor's oceans, which are compared to small islands but are high-pressure underwater environments. Each diving site will have specific Sailing level requirements and offer different activities. The developers plan to start with a smaller number of sites and expand them over time.

Proposed activities include two Jewellery Production diving sites located near hydrothermal vents. These sites will feature gem rocks and a magical furnace that can automatically bank smelted jewelry. A low-level site will have gem rocks similar to Shilo Village, while a high-level site will offer faster-respawning silver and gold rocks, as well as new Precious and Exotic gem rocks requiring 65 and 75 Mining respectively. Another site will introduce an underwater Farming area with a spirit tree patch, a Celastrus Tree patch, a Mushroom patch, and a Hardwood Tree patch. For combat-focused players, one diving site will feature a multi-combat area with new Slayer creatures, including Depth Crawlers (level 60 variants of Cave Crawlers) and Drowned Mages (level 85 variants).
